On losing a bet

This past weekend was the latest and final conference meeting between my beloved Aggies and the land thieves known as the Oklahoma Sooners. Last year, I met a bet with my buddy Rich Lubbers concerning the outcome of that game. If the Sooners won, I would post a pro-sooner status on my facebook. He was so sure that OU would win (We were huge underdogs) that he added more stipulations to the bet: a week of statuses, tickets to an OU game in our lifetime, he had to wear an A&M shirt, and he had to write a blog entry. So, we won, and the rest is history.

We made the same bet again this year, and we lost. So that cancels out the tickets, Here is the blog entry, and I'm working my way though the facebook statuses.

So here goes... Why is Oklahoma football better than us?

Well for me, it comes down to a desire to win. Well, doesn't everyone want to win? Well, yes, but not everybody does what is necessary to win. For A&M, a culture that is sometimes too stuck on its traditions, our achiles heel has been the desire of our alumni, BORs, and administrators to hire a football coach that "fits in" to our Aggie culture. So we go for the good 'ol country boy every time instead of the football hungry, young go getter, with something to prove. We have historically played a very reactive role to our AD. Waiting to see what Texas and OU do, before trying to match it. That changed this year with the SEC, and I hope that it will yield a mind change for the better, but until we act like the OU alumni, and DEMAND results... we will continue to disappoint.
