What is Pain? Yes, I know it's french for "Bread" but I found myself in an oddly annoying sleepless night pouring over our God-given ability to FEEL. Some people are pretty good at controlling emotions, manipulating themselves even, to achieve better balance in their lives. I think this is a myth because I have never been able to do that. Life happens, and BAM before you know it: Pain. Hurt. And no amount of breathing exercises or focusing makes it go away. No matter how often you've felt the same way or No magic incantation that removes you from the moment, the reality of how things ARE not how you'd like them to be.
And then it hit me.
So many things in our lives are a reminder of God's glory. Not only the way we are built as humans, with souls and hearts, and feelings, but even the rocks and trees and the absolute complexity of the entire thing scream "THERE IS A GOD AND HE'S WORTHY OF GLORY." So what if pain serves the same purpose? What if in some stroke of brilliance, God decided that there is a way that seems right and a way that is wrong. An Absolute Truth. "The Way things Are" So we fight reality, attempt to drown sorrows in one of a million distractions from facing what is actually going on: Everything from drugs and alcohol to too much TV and music. We saturate our lives with noise, because we're too afraid to face the realities of life. So I thought it made sense that Pain happens to point towards God. To show you there is a disconnect between the way things SEEM and the way things ARE. And that the only unchangeable person in our lives is God.
2 Corinthians 3:18: And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect[a] the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
